    Biography

    AKIHIKO SHIRAI, Ph.D in Engineering, has obtained a bachelor of Photo Engineering and master of Image Processing from Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics. Afterwards he worked for Canon and Criterion as a game development consultant to distribute RenderWare, a multi-platform graphics middleware for the game industry until 2001. He went back to academia to study intelligent systems and obtained a Ph.D. in the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan in 2004 with research concerning the “Tangible Playroom”, an entertainment system for young children using haptics, a floor screen and a physics engine. He was a R&D researcher at NHK-ES in Japan, focusing on the next generation’s TV production environment before moving to ENSAM Presence & Innovation Laboratory in France from 2004 to 2007 for R&D of a Virtual Reality theme park project. He worked for National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), Tokyo Japan, as a science communicator and exhibition planner from 2008 to 2010. From 2010 to 2018, he worked in the Information Media Department at Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT) as an associate professor. From 2018 June, he is working as Director of GREE VR Studio Lab, which is founded for VR and VTuber entertainment R&D institute in GREE, Inc.

    Anabela Costa is a visual artist, her work were subject of several solo exhibitions. From the eighties she becames interested and moves progressively towards the digital image. Since 2000 she is conducting research in the field of experimental film, based on two axes: the moving image -the aesthetics of representation of movement, and the formalization of thematic and scientific concepts. She made a few experimental animation combining these two research areas: Web, TIME, LIQST_liquid state, and Landscape, In Motion, which were programmed and awarded in international festivals devoted to avant-garde cinema, animation, media arts and video-arts. She is also involved in international conferences where she presents these movies or articles about the image and its contemporary transformations. Living in Paris since 2010, she continued her artistic and technology research by working with experimental software in the generation of images -still images or moving image.     Starting his career in the modeling and simulation community more than 15 years ago, Sébastien was working for Engenuity as a software engineer for the implementation of STAGE Scenario as the lesson planner scenario generator (LPSG) of the Eurofighter Typhoon training solution. Seb also provided services in the areas of software architecture, development, and customization for several European projects. After moving to Montreal, Canada in 2006, he has been working on the COTS integration at CAE, and then became the Presagis Product Marketing Manager of the Simulation and Visualization products in 2007. Lately he put together simulation and training teams and strategies for emerging companies like CM Labs and D-BOX. During his career, Seb focussed in learning about the latest simulation innovations as well as sharing his experiences about how experts have solved their challenges by leveraging COTS solutions.     Skip Rizzo is a clinical psychologist and Director of Medical VR at the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies. He is also a Research Professor with the USC Dept. of Psychiatry and School of Gerontology. Over the last 25 years, Skip has conducted research on the design, development and evaluation of Virtual Reality systems targeting the areas of clinical assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation across the domains of psychological, cognitive and motor functioning in both healthy and clinical populations. This work has focused on PTSD, TBI, Autism, ADHD, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and other clinical conditions. He has also driven an extensive research program on the use of intelligent virtual human agents for clinical training, healthcare information support, and clinical assessment. In spite of the diversity of these clinical R&D areas, the common thread that drives all of his work with digital technologies involves the study of how Virtual and Augmented Reality simulations can be usefully applied to human healthcare beyond what is possible with traditional 20th Century methods.     A/Professor Tomasz Bednarz is a Director and Head of Visualisation at the Expanded Perception & Interaction Centre (EPICentre), UNSW Art & Design. He is also a Team Leader in Visual Analytics, at the CSIRO Data61 (Computational Platforms Group, Software & Computational Systems Program). He holds PI and AI positions at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS) and holds Adjunct Associate Professor positions at the QUT (School of Mathematical Sciences) and University of South Australia (School of IT and Math Sciences). His current roles reflect his conviction to a holistic approach to the wicked problems facing the collation, analytics and display of big data. His approach is expansive and encompasses the use of novel technologies (AR, VR, CAVE, Dome, AVIE), often in combination. Over the last couple of years, he has been involved in wide range of projects in area of immersive visualisation, human-computer interaction, computational imaging, image analysis and processing, visualisation, simulations, computer graphics, computer games, computational fluid dynamics, demoscene. He is Chair of ACM SIGGRAPH Asia 2019. SIGGRAPH conferences are the world’s largest, most influential annual meetings and exhibitions in computer graphics and interactive techniques.     Violette Abergel is a PhD student since 2017 in the Aria team of the MAP laboratory (models and simulations for architecture and cultural heritage, UMR 3495 CNRS/MC). After a master degree in architecture issued by the ENSA-Lyon in 2015, she joined the MAP as an engineer, working on the development of a virtual reality framework, and then on the archiving and dissemination of digital resources of rock art and decorated caves, in collaboration with the French National Center of Prehistory (CNP). Her current research focuses on the use of Mixed Reality for cultural heritage analysis and documentation. She is involved in the development of Aïoli, a reality based 3D annotation platform for the collaborative documentation of heritage artefacts.
